Project Study Area
Wetland and riparian areas will be mapped in 193 USGS
orthoquads. The geographic setting for this project includes
the coastal watersheds that fall within the project areas
of the Water Quality Control Boards Regions 3, 4, 8, and
9 (see Figure below). Together, the geographic scope of
these three Regional Boards encompasses over 11,000 sq.
miles of land. In general this region is characterized
by a mild semi-arid climate with an average rainfall of
15 inches per year. The region is highly urbanized, with
land uses ranging from residential, commercial and industrial,
recreational, agriculture, to open space.

Our project will involve mapping only those areas for
which there is no recent NWI data. Figure 2 below outlines
the 193 USGS orthoquads we will be mapping. Click

listing the quads we will map for the project.
